Also, when you visit ao Shrine, be sure to stop by the worship hall and look up at the "flower ceiling" that stretches across the ceiling.

It will be restored for the first time in about 160 years in 2024. Ancient floral paintings that are said to have existed since the end of the Edo period are on display in cases.

You can also take your time admiring the "Flower Ceiling of Associated Waka Poems," which was newly donated during the restoration work, by going up to the worship hall.

The worldview of the shrine is expressed through paintings and calligraphy, using the waka poems of Ariwara no Narihira, the son of the enshrined deity Prince Ao, and Sugawara no Michizane, who is enshrined in the main hall, as its subject.
